Sri Lanka should play more test matches.

Kushal Perara and Dilshan running hard between wickets

Sri Lanka a test playing nation, which is widely known for its brave efforts and mysterious cricketers, who had chosen to step out of the box & do the things differently, however at Test level they tend to struggle and are ranked under 3 since long , having said the fact that the retirement of the few great Cricketers like Sanath Jayasuriya,Aravinda De Silva,Chaminda Vass & Muttiah Muralitharan taken a toll on the Srilanka’s test glory. The Down fall continue to hurt team which is in transition period, however with player like Dilshan, Mahela Jayawerdene & Sangakkara at present the team seems to be at safe hands but the future is in dark as all of them went past the age of 36 and among this  three, Dilshan doesn’t play tests anymore. A Team which is under transition should play more test matches to gain to get back to their self with players who can be the flag bearers for the next decade, but to our surprise  Srilanka has played only 3 Test Matches in 2013, the last time they appeared in whites was on March 2013 and are held-up with limited overs cricket. An international test team should play 8 test matches per year on an average to the least to keep the momentum going especially the team which is under transition period. And with Mahela who is coming back in side it’s a long story, he played last test match in January 2013 against Australia & missed the two test against Bangladesh due to injury. It will not be an easy task for any of the Sri Lankan player to actually keep the momentum going, Sangakkara averages 110 in 3 test matches in 2013 he also played last test match in March. During the initial period of Mahela & Sangakkara’s career they were playing  10 -12 test matches a year which helped them to gain more experience & exposure quickly but it isnt the same case now as Sri Lanka hardly play those number of tests in a year. I wish them Luck for the Test series against Pakistan & hope to see them playing as many matches the other test playing nations do in the coming years as test championship is fast approaching. Here is What hearth has to say ahead of the test series against Pakistan “As a team, we last played in March, and since then no games, so you can say there may be some rustiness, and you [will] need practice to shake its off, but you can’t control these things. We, after all, had good five [ODI] games and we are almost ready for the three Tests.”
