Sachin Tendulkar’s Mumbai wins their 40th Ranji title

Ranji champions MumbaiSachin Tendulkar and Mumbai have done it yet again. Winning another Ranji Trophy by thumping Saurashtra by an innings and 125 runs. The bowlers did it for Mumbai as they humiliated the Saurashtra team in the first innings after which the Mumbai batsmen took a healthy lead of 207 runs.

Saurashtra were reduced to 20/6 before some repair work was done by the tail. Finally Mumbai embraced the Ranji title by registering a historic win against Saurashtra.

This Ranji Title was special as it came right after Sachin Tendulkar’s retirement from ODI Cricket. A lot of people came to watch their favourite cricketer play.

Sachin Tendulkar and his teammates under the leadership of Ajit Agarkar looked jubilant at the award ceremony. It was a good series and Mumbai. Most of the credit goes to Ajit Agarkar and Dhawan Kulkarni as they bowled amazingly to make sure that the game ended in just three days.The 40th Ranji title has been termed as one of the biggest by star bowler Ajit Agarkar. There is no doubt that the youngsters played a key role in this win but a lot of credit goes to the experienced brass of Sachin Tendulkar, Wasim Jaffer and Ajit Agarkar.

Mumbai also earned the right to take on the Rest of India in the Irani Cup tie which is to be held at the same venue here from February 6-10. The home team also won Rs 2 crore as the prize money while Saurashtra got Rs 1 crore.

The visiting team’s batting brigade looked uncomfortable and totally out of place. They showed lack of application and technique as they surrendered on a wicket that provided good bowling conditions and average batting conditions.

Ranji Kings Mumbai have surely set a standard and Agarkar said he was proud to have maintained the legacy.
