7. Sarika and Kapil Dev
Sarika Thakur is from New Delhi, started her film career as a child actress at the age of 4 just like her ex-husband Kamal Hasan.Sarika was a woman who underwent child abuse from her own mother itself. She was not even allowed to go school. She gave up her career after her love and marriage to Kamal Hasan and moved to Chennai. Her daughters-Sruthi and Akshara have started their career in the industry as well. In 2000, she won National award for “Best Costume Design” and in 2002 for “Best Actress.”
Think of Kapil Dev and the first image that comes to mind is the iconic image of him holding the World Cup in Lords’ balcony. Dev, other than guiding India to World Cup glory, had many other high points in his career. With over 400 Test wickets and more than 5000 Test runs, he remains India’s first, and perhaps the only genuine all-rounder.
The quantum of the relationship between Sarika and Kapil, however, remains unknown. Other than Sarika, Dev had a romantic relationship with a certain Romi Bhatia- his wife to the day. Dev met Romi through a common friend in 1979 and fell for her. A year later, he proposed to Romi and the couple married the same year. Post marriage, some differences with wife Romi meant their alliance was in crisis. Sarika entered Dev’s life at this juncture. The duo began spending a lot of time together, and Dev’s family had no objections with the two going around.Things however improved for better with Romi and Kapil sorting their differences and giving another shot to their marriage. Kapil Dev and Romi were a happy couple again, and were blessed with a baby girl on January 16, 1996.
