5. Kapil Dev (India) – 175 vs Zimbabwe
Kapil Dev is no.5 in the list. One of the best all-rounders in World Cricket and arguably the best India
has ever produced. Kapil Dev was very much useful at the lower middle order. He could clear boundaries at will. Kapil Dev had his share of Kapil Dev is also the 1983 World Cup winning captain ending the West Indies domination. In the road to glory, he scored a massive 175 against Zimbabwe to steer India through. No wonder Wisden named him the Indian cricketer of the Century. Kapil Dev was one of the biggest street smart cricketing minds India had in the 1980s. Kapil Dev is one of the few gems that India ever had. A bowling all-rounder like him was just what the doctor ordered, and there he was. Kapil Dev is known for 2 things – First, for playing a massive role in getting India crowned as the world champions for the first time and then he scalped 431 test wickets, when he overtaked Sir Richard Hadley. He held the record of the most test wickets for quite sometime until Courtney Walsh broke the record. He may not have been so great like Imran Khan or Ian Botham but knew his strengths and weaknesses very well. He could inspire a whole country to take up cricket as their profession. It was the World Cup win in 1983 that paved the way for many people to take up cricket seriously, even the great Sachin Tendulkar. If Kapil Dev was not born in the era of the Bothams, Imran Khans he would have achieved a bit more.
