At 22, when Graeme Smith became South Africa’s youngest captain, the nation’s integrity had suffered in wake of the whole match-fixing saga. But not many would have imagined, how well this youngster in his early 20s, would go on to rebuild the side with his ‘on the face’ approach.
Smith skippered South Africa in 150 ODIs and went on to score 5,416 runs at an average of almost 39 and strike-rate of 83.06 with 8 centuries and 37 half-centuries. However, Smith could never win anything for South Africa in ICC tournaments.
